So – I don’t know about y’all, but I love a good cleaning session.  I typically Swiffer and/or vacuum our house once {{if not twice}} a week.  I love a clean look in any room; however, when it comes to my own bedroom, I sometimes really have to make myself focus.  Last year, when I decided to do a little spring cleaning, my mom told me about a book “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up“.  This book gives you the steps to help get your house organized by the items that make you happy, that bring you joy.  Last spring, I took to this method, but honestly, I guess I didn’t full commit, because my room was cluttered again within the next couple of months.  When you go by the methods that are suggested in this book, they say that it only takes this one time to de-clutter and then you shouldn’t have to de-clutter again {{at least for a good while}}.

When you think about this philosophy, it makes total sense.  Why clutter up your room & life with things that don’t bring you joy?  I know when my room gets cluttered & may contain some stuff that doesn’t exactly bring me joy, I can only take it for so long and I’m like “okay, seriously de-cluttering my room ASAP!!”.

This spring, I’ve decided to fully commit to the methods of “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up“, as well as use some tips provided by MakeSpace {{they also use the same type of methods from this book}}.  They have a “cheat sheet” on the process provided by “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” as well as tips on how to make the best store clothes & anything else you decide to keep.

Here are 4 of my personal steps I take before de-cluttering:
1 – Plan for when I can do a deep de-cluttering session.  You definitely want to take time to fully de-clutter, otherwise you’re just half-butting it and that does no good.

2 – I envision what I want the room to look like as a whole and I try to keep this in mind while de-cluttering/cleaning.

3 – I go section by section and categorize my things.  For example, if I’m starting at my make-up table, I keep & organize what I use daily {{or frequently}}, what I no longer use, and what’s officially trash.  The stuff that I no longer use, obviously if it can still be used, I will ask my friends if they’d like it, but if they don’t – then I dispose of it.  I use this same method with clothes & shoes, except I add a donate category.  {{I don’t think you really want to donate your make-up, but clothes, shoes, & books for sure can be donated}}.

4 – I check & double check to make sure that the things above that I use daily bring me joy, otherwise – they’re discarded, recycled, or donated.

So, whether you are just organizing your cleaning supplies, stationary, or room – I strongly suggest using “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” and MakeSpace to inspire & guide you as you prepare for you spring cleaning of 2016.
