Monday After New Years… for new goals & fresh starts.

Happy New Year to all of you!  2016 is here and with that comes new beginnings; therefore, on this Monday, per usual, I am keeping a CELL{{Caffeine, Energy, Laughter, Lipstick}}-like mindset as I double check my day-by-day schedule {{using my Day Designer Planner – what else?!}} and plan out the rest of my week.

It is that time of year to reflect on yourself/your life and figure out the steps you want to take to better achieve your goals.  Maybe 2015 for you was pretty ballin’ and you’ve set yourself up for even more success in 2016 {{if this is you, YGG}} OR maybe 2015 was a year of hit and misses and now, looking ahead in 2016, you’re more motivated than ever to set goals and then achieve them {{if this is you, YSGG – you still go girl}}.  Either way, one of my goals is to not only inspire myself every day and try to keep as motivated as possible, but I hope to also keep you inspired as well!

When I used to teach middle school, I would make it a point to encourage my students {{at least 2 if not 3 times a year}} to really take the time to reflect on themselves and to think about what they wanted AND how they could achieve it.  And yes I did this in the classroom.  This particular curriculum wasn’t exactly demanded by Common Core or any sort of state standards, but let’s be honest – it’s not like these two sets of ‘standards’ are exactly working to set any sort of ‘standards’ in our young peoples’ lives or in adults’ lives for that matter.  Sorry for the side note/soapbox speech, but, my main point in saying this is that I try to make it a point in my own life to reflect and check the progress on my goals more than once a year.  There seems to be this huge joke in our society that we all break our New Years Resolutions in the first month or two, and I am by no means innocent; however, in the last couple years I have tried harder than ever before to make myself stick to the goals I set for myself AND to reflect on them at least twice a year, if not more.

Here are 4 steps/thought processes I take when I go into goal-setting mode:

• Your WHY – why are you doing what you’re doing?

• Your WHY leads to your WHAT – so what are the specific steps you’ll take to achieve your WHY?

• I have found that when I give myself deadlines, this helps to keep me on track & motivated.

• OWN YOUR GOAL – when you say it out loud, when you write it town, when you tell someone, you are more likely to be held accountable – so…OWN it.  You should be proud of your goals and not ashamed of them, when someone else knows, I have found that I am more likely to follow-through and there is no downside to that!

With all of this being said, as I look back on 2015, I am most happy with my decision to start blogging.  It is something I have always wanted to do and I am very glad I finally took the leap.  Of course there are people to thank who helped me out significantly and I cannot thank them enough – this includes Y’ALL who follow me!!  I seriously am so grateful & appreciative for you and I hope that 2016 brings many more followers and great blog posts for you all to read! 🙂
