How to Pack (Even if You’re an Over-Packer)

Hi lovies –

I hope everyone is having a great week so far!  On Tuesday I went down to Charlotte to visit some friends & attend a Beauty Counter Social – it was such a good time!  I learned a lot about their products and how to be more educated when purchasing cosmetics.  One of the things I was most shocked to learn was that there hasn’t been a major law passed since 1938 to regulate the safety of ingredients put into personal care items.  Yea, you read that correctly.  Basically they can put pretty much whatever in cosmetics, shampoo, lotion, etc. and call it nearly whatever.  So Beauty Counter decided to do something about it.  It’s a great company and if you haven’t checked them out yet, you definitely should.

In two days I will be heading to the beach on my family vacay and I could not be more excited!!  It will be so nice to get away for a week and just relax and hang with them.  But first, packing.  Oh packing.  How I always overpack.  Like even for just a weekend.  It’s bad.  I seem to always over-pack my clothes, but really also shoes.  SO I made it a goal to pack smarter for this week long trip and I decided to share this info with y’all!  Obviously these tips of mine will vary depending on the trip you’re taking and how long you’ll be gone, but hopefully y’all can use them as a guideline or reminder and hopefully you’ll take something away from my particular list!

Here are some tips for packing (even if you are an over-packer):

1 – Duration of your trip • Think about how many days you’re going to be gone.  I’ve told myself I don’t need to take 6 different v-neck tops.  Instead I can take maybe 3 because I’ll also take you know a couple of casual tanks too so I can pump the brakes on the tops.  Yes you always want to take maybe one JIC outfit, but ya don’t need to take 3 JIC outfits (does anyone else do this?!).

2 – Clothes • What are you going to be doing on your trip?  Will it mostly be low-key dinners out on your porch or nights out?  What’s your day time looking like?  Are you shopping, beaching, being sporty?  For me, this trip will mostly involve beach time so swimsuits (3-4) , cover-ups (2-3), denim shorts (3), and v-necks (3) will be a majority of my suitcase + I know that we will have at least one nice dinner out so I’ll decide ahead of time which dress I want to take to wear just to save some space in my suitcase.  My niece & nephew will be on this trip too so it will be mostly casual, fun, & low-key dinners at the house so I don’t have to plan out too many ‘dressed-up’ looks.

3 – Shoes • One thing I somehow always over-pack.  This time I’m limiting myself to ONE pair of wedges  (I usually try to cram 2 or 3 in), one pair of tennies, a pair of beach flip-flops, and probably two, but maybeee three pairs of flat sandals.

4 – Personal Care + Cosmetics • This is a category of packing that I’ve been working on recently when I’ve been traveling.  I finally cleaned out & organized my bag that I use to pack my shampoo, face-wash, etc. in.  I have a ton of samples in this bag and I just pile stuff on top of it and it’s honestly been a mess y’all. SO on my last weekend trip, I cleaned it out and only took what I needed and that is something I will also do for this trip.  I’m making better use of these samples to save space and not pack both the samples & my regular size of products.  As far as make-up goes for this trip, I know that I will be taking some pictures and that we will be going to a nice dinner and probably a few other meals so I’ll bring all of my day-to-day make-up, but I don’t really need to pack all of my eyeshadow palettes and liquid liner.  Mostly basics will do!

5 – Accessories • My accessories this trip will be V simple.  I know I will be taking 2-3 pairs of fun earrings, a necklace or two, and duh a beach hat & bag.  I will also be taking a book or two to read on the beach and some headphones for the car.  Although I won’t be working a whole lot this trip, I will also take my laptop to put up a couple different posts for y’all and of course I’ll take my camera!

I hope that these packing tips were helpful!  I know that writing this post really helped me get myself organized for this trip and ready to put all my things in my suitcase later tomorrow.  Leave a comment below & let me know what y’all think and if you ever have to cut yourself off from over-packing.  I love hearing from y’all!

Enjoy your Friday-eve!

Xo,

Erika
