Happy Labor Day!
Today (and really all week hehe) I am celebrating a little more than Labor Day. Yesterday marked the 2 year anniversary of my blog! My blogiversary! Wow another year down and I truly can’t believe it. I feel like I have come so far since my blogiversary post from last year. Not to toot my own horn, but I am pretty proud of myself. Out of all the things in my life, this is the one thing I have been able to make a 110% commitment to in the last two years and I think that’s because I truly. love. doing. this. I love styling outfits and sharing them with y’all and hopefully giving you a little outfit (& sometimes life) inspo.
In the last year, I am blessed to say that I have been able to dedicate more time to my blog (thanks to reasons you’ll see in this post from last week), worked with more brands, was able to upgrade my equipment, attend more blogging events, get to know some other amazing bloggers through Style Collective + other ways, and learned a lot about myself & the business along the way.
Here are 3 mottos that kept me going this 2nd year of blogging:
1 – Stay true to yourself. This one is sort of a two-fold step. 1A – Your beliefs, style, and stories matter. Brands, companies, or people may approach you and make their ways of doing something look so glamorous, but that doesn’t always mean it’s the right answer for you. If you have a weird feeling about something or don’t feel like it aligns with your values or lifestyle, chances are you shouldn’t pursue it. 1B – Sometimes you may hold back from being your true self, but why? Some days I struggle with putting myself out there more than others. This step is something that is still a work in progress for me, but I do feel like in the last year I have been more true to myself and I’ve seen way more positive from it than negative.
2 – Be Persistent. Never give up. This is like a family motto to me. Even my 6 year old niece says it to me sometimes. “Never give up, E.” I mean how could you quit after hearing this phrase out of a cutie who is only 6? The girl is straight inspo. In the last year (especially these last 6 months), I have been laid off from a really good job, told no from a couple brands that I reached out to, rejected from an affiliate program, but I didn’t give up. As cheesyyy as that sounds, I kept going. I see other bloggers getting deals with brands, boutiques, etc. and yea sometimes I wish that could already be at that level; however, I have learned to be at peace with my pace. I have learned to keep going and to not let these bad dips in life get me down, but instead inspire me to be and do better.
3 – Stay focused. Keep your eye on that prize. Revert back to step 2 and just remember why you’re doing what you’re doing. You know that older song “everybody’s talkin’ at me, I don’t hear a word they’re saying”? In the last year, I sometimes had a similar feeling, but I also felt like I just knew what I was doing. I knew that my decisions didn’t always make sense to everyone else and I had to become okay with this. Did I have panic moments where I was like “holy crap wait. what is happening?”, um yes. If I told you no then I’d be a liar & that is not real life, but somehow more days than not I was pretty at ease and believed in what I was doing.
If y’all have been following me this whole time, first of all bless your heart – I love you. Second of all, you know that I love some Drake. I know, so #basic, but I just can’t help it. So, in one of his songs in this past year with Gucci Mane (Both) he says “see the power of the mind is not a joke, I said that I would do it and I did.” Well, although he is a little more hardcore than me, I couldn’t agree with the man more. I mean how insightful of him? Okay, anyway a year ago I said that I wanted to go to NYFW and I had it in my mind that I was going. I just didn’t even question it. It was one of those things that I knew I wanted and I knew I would somehow figure it out and a year later, I did it. Yes this Thursday I fly out for NYC to attend NYFW. The power of your mind is truly not a joke. If you’re a rapper, blogger, teacher, realtor, sales rep, unemployed, whatever you may be doing, it’s all about your mindset.
PS – I am lovinggg this top so much from Bevello! It is suede and has gorgeous detail on the front with a cute little opening in the back. It looks great with jeans & this past Saturday I wore it with a black skirt. Also, can we talk about these jeans for a minute? I love the flared bottom and they are soo soft & comfy. I’ve linked a similar look below!
